As a young married couple we sent multiple emails and filled all the necessary application forms they ask.
We waited for a whole month and also called many times but no one ever answered or reached out to us.
Eventually we adopted an amazing dog from Castaic shelter. It took us not more than 15 minutes to get our baby and save her from euthanasia. We were prepared for all of the questions as should be! but no one was even interested in talking to us.
Too bad they have so many beautiful dogs that don’t even get the chance to meet their potential owners.
And i’m asking, is this place trying to get the dogs adopted or what ?!

Tried working with this rescue, but found they weren't forthcoming with information. Went through the entire application process, they received approval from our landlord and we were good to go. I then found a couple of puppies I wanted to see and reached out to Carol to inquire about them and she stated that Maria would give me a call regarding those 2 specific puppies. Maria never called, but sent an email stating that those 2 puppies were not a good fit for our situation, but sent a list of puppies that were approximately 4-5 weeks older that what I was looking at. When I asked why Maria stated that they can't be in an only dog home. I then offered to take them both if things worked out after meeting them. Maria then stated that we couldn't adopt the same sex from the same liter puppies and that one of them already had an appointment to be seen by another family. This information was never stated to us, it is not posted anywhere on the website and was never mentioned by the Carol in the beginning of the process. When I reached back out to Carol, she gave this big explanation about issues they have had with other families in the past so the rescue made it a policy. I then stated that if that information would have been told upfront to us or on the website I would have totally understood. I feel they aren't forthcoming with all the information which makes me wonder what else they don't tell people. I did explain that we were very prepared for a puppy at a younger age and just wanted all information to be given to us up front. At this point they have stopped communicating with us. Breaks my heart that they have dogs that need a home and we are willing, but will now go somewhere else.

It was a thorough application process but I was matched with a wonderful dog.
I live up by Portland, OR and Nova was brought up to me at a rearranged location.
From start to finish, the whole process was a VERY positive experience!

This rescue absolutely does GOD'S work saving these babies. I have been rescuing pups with them for many years and would never go anywhere else. Thank you for saving Benz Von Bergheim. He is a true fur angel.

There is no better team of volunteers and staff at Westside German Shepherd Rescue in LA county. The team has found homes for over. 14 thousand dogs. Their application process and standards are high as they lookout for the best interest of the dog. Great place to volunteer and support these amazing dogs. Awesome place to find that special member of the family. Support Westside dogs!

Their address is not 3016 S. S Hill Street. That address belongs to Westside German Shepherd Rescue of Los Angeles. Apparently they thought stealing Westside's name would give them an advantage. Reputable breeders show their dames and studs. I don't see anything like that on their website. You have to give a star to post but really I would give none. This is just the opinion of a volunteer who is truly discussed that they would try to use the name of a Reputable rescue for solely for their monetary gain. Shame on you!!!!!!!!!!

If you are looking to rescue a German Shepherd, we recommend Westside German Shepherd Rescue. The application process is thorough, but in our view necessary. Shortly after completing the application we were contacted by WGSR. We reside outside the United States and therefore there were a few additional logistical issues. We found WGSR very accommodating and helpful in navigating the cross border process and transportation. When we visited the Rescue, all the staff and volunteers were very friendly and helpful. What could have potentially been a complicated process, went very smoothly. Our dog was dropped off at LAX at the agreed upon time with all the requisite documentation that made checking in and Canada Customs go smoothly. We interacted with several staff and volunteers and would like to say a very special “thank you” to the Transportation Coordinator for his invaluable assistance.
For those potential Canadian adopters, If you visit the Rescue and decide to adopt a dog, the process is not difficult if:
- The dog and the kennel do not weigh more than 100 lbs;
- the dog flies back to Canada with you on WestJet (as part of your checked luggage, currently a $100 +GST fee); and
- you have the requisite documentation that will be provided by WGSR.

We are out of state adopters from Arizona. I saw a photo of a dog that just pulled my heartstrings, so we immediately applied and got the phone call the next day to arrange the details to meet her. Unfortunately, she was a very sick puppy (to no fault of the rescue) and we lost her after only a week of adopting her. So we opened our hearts to try again. Robin, the founder, sent us videos of a new dog that she thought would be a good fit for our family before they even posted her on the site and we packed our bags to go meet Kaylin. We brought her home upon meeting her and the rescue was accommodating to meet us hours before they opened for adoptions. She is taking her time to adjust, but that’s what happens when you get a rescue dog! They have a story that only they know and you have to work through the challenges. Kaylin just got spayed per and she is officially ours. Thank you Westside for offering solutions for our sick dog (Fluffy) and making the efforts to allow us a new fur baby.
